JUNE 18, 192SONE OF FIRST TO HAVE TELEPHONEIX V ESTIMATION BEING MADE TO DETERMINE MATTER OK PIIONE SERVICE IN THIS CITY.ICONTRACT WAS MADE IN 1878An investigation to determine wheth-1er Shelbwille had one of the first, if not the first, telephone instruments installed in any city in Indiana, is being pushed by Earl Talbot, managerof the Shelbyville exchange of the' Hell Telephone Company, anil state officials of the company. Information and documents which were found here recently, were sent to the state offices of the telephone company, and from there have been forwarded to the headquarters of the Hell system, the American Telephone and Telegraph Company. New YorkSome time ago Wood Kirk, of this city, found among the papers of his father, the late G. W. F Kirk a contract for telephone service that his father had signed-as secretary of the Shelbyville Gas and Light Company, on July 20. 1878.The contract was for two 'telephone sets and two magneto bells for use on a Sine from the office to the gas works, and was signed G. W. F. Kirk, secretary The contract was signed on i behalf of the company by E. W Gleason, agent for the Telegraph Sup-pj Company. No 40 Public Square. Cleveland.
