oox 1400, hlgin, 111. bulZu. o----------°---------------Marquart Family Hosts Recent ReunionCOLLEGE STATION - The weekend of June 7 and 8 marked the first reunion for the Marquart family of Texasin 14 years.The family, descendants of Ben Hardt and Mary Ann Curd Marquart, had met annually prior to the death of their mother and grandmother in 1962. This year’s get-together was held at the old Shiloh Hallin College Station.State Representative Bill Fresnal served as master of ceremonies and Mrs. Mary Arnold McCulloch chaired the reunion committee.National Organization for Women (NOW); and Fumi Takano of Japan, third vice president of the International Federation of University Women.During the five-day session, delegates are attending classes on women’s concern withOn display were many old family pictures and legal documents dating from 1830. The family trees of both the Marquart and Curd families and two large murals depicting the family history were also on display.OLD FAMILY reunion movies were shown on June 7 and on June 8 a devotional tribute was observed in remembrance of Ben and Mary Ann Curd Marquart.Special recognition was given to a grandson, Robert W. Baker, recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from Texas AM University recently. The award has been given about 40 times during the history of the university.Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Clay, grandson of Capt. Thomas C. Clay who brought Ben Marquart to Texas from an Episcopal orphans’ home in St. Louis, Mo. in 1878, talked about the Clay family and the old Clay mansion at Ind-penendence.Members also joined in a gospel signing session including songs by a son, Louis N. Marquart of Houston, who has written and published several songs being used today in singing conventions.A special guest at the reunion was 86-year-old Mrs. Annie Marquart Yett of Waco, niece of Ben Marquart.VISITING families came from Houston, Harlingen, Groveton, Cleveland, Colmesneil, Austin, Arlington, Sulphur Springs, Fort Worth, Waco, Onalaska, Navasota, Wellborn, Millican, PeachCreek, Tabor, Kurten, Independence, Bryan and College Station.children’s nursery operators, Marjorie Presnal.Children of the Marquarts include the late Mrs. Lena Allen Marquart; Louis Napoleon Marquart and Mrs. Addie Marquart Baker of Houston; Mrs. Liddie Marquart Arnold and Mrs.kawai PIANOSNEW USEDNYSTEDT’S2611 E. 29th (Across From St. Joseph Hosp.)Clara Marquart Taylor, College Station; Mrs. Marjorie Marquart Presnal, Tabor; and Seth Shepard iBud) Marquart.Navasota.Three grandsons, Bill Presnal, James K Presnal and Robert W. Baker, have served in the Texas Senate. Baker is now serving on the Coordinating Board of Colleges and Universities of the State ofTexas.Charles Arnold and Bill Presnal have also been honored as Men of Achievement of Texas.AMONG the Marquart grandchildren are engineers, veterinarians, school teachers, nurses, businessmen, beauticians, secretaries, postmen, ranchers, electricians, restaurant, motel, laundry and lumberyard owners, carpenters, housewives, Sunday School teachers, deacons andstatesmen.Of the 168 direct descendants born since 1892 to four generations, 166 are livingtoday.Officers elected for 1975-76 include Henry L. Allen, president; Dolores Marquart Thomsen, secretary; Milton W. Arnold, trerasurer; and Mary Arnold McCulloch, historian.Committee members for this year were Mmes. McCulloch, Thomsen.
