Toy, then a traveling salesman for an implement firm and 25 years old, married Miss Mary Brubacker, 20, at the home of the bride's family In Waterloo, la.They had met a few years before while Mr. Toy was clerking In a Waterloo store. He was horn In Wilmington, Del., In 18G0.Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Toy settlod at Storm Bake. la., where Mr. Toy had purchased nlumber and coal business. After bfew years he sold that business and asosciated with Dean Darker in « bank, at Storm Lake, later purchasing the hanking interests of Sutfen Hayes.The beginning of the present chainreiw!ullt;toftO(heprJAMES F. TOY.of banking firms controlled by theToy interests had its inception whenthe firm name was changed fromJames F. Toy, banker, to Farmersand Merchants bank, and a branch was established at Sioux Rapids.Although Mr. Toy has admitted In recent years that It had but little commercial value, he had a private telephone system established between the two institutions. From an advertising standpoint, he said the Idea was valuable because It incited curiosity and attention among residents of the territory. People came from miles around to see, the new fanglcd Invention for it was the first telephone line established in this partof the country.Another branch was established at Alta soon .afterward andd from that time on the Toy banks have grown In number and importatnco.In 1699 Mr. Toy established his first venture in Bioux City under the numc, Farmers Loan and Trust com pany.
