26 INDIANS OFF ONHIGHWAY MARATHONBy United PressSAN FRANCISCO, June 14.—Twenty-six bronzed marathon runners, the fleetest of some dozen Indian tribes of the West, started here today on the second Redwood Empire marathon run of 482 miles from San Francisco to Grants Pass, Ore.A pistol shot fired at 10:20 a. m. sent the runners from the starting line in front of the City Hall here. Their weary route leads over the picturesque Redwood Highway, a long asphaltum and concrete stretch through the big tree country.Trimmed down to apparently perfect physical condition by careful training, Mad Bull, the young Karook who won last year’s Jaunt in time slightly under eight days, and Flying Cloud, a tribesman of Mad Bull’s who was second In-1927, ruler favorites at the start.The two young braves got away In smiling confidence, each predicting the $5000 first prize money would be won “by a Karook'M*
