ft Muscatine, la., Journal—Tuesday, June 10,1969%Columbus alumni banquet honors 50 year membersCOLUMBUS JUNCTION — Nine members of the class of 1919, the 50 year class honored at the Columbus Alumni Banquet Saturday evening, were present for the reunion. This was the first class to graduate from the high school building which is now the Columbus grade school.Members attending were Mrs. Minerva Alsip Chambers, Des Moines; Mrs. Ella Drake Barnes, Sigourney; Mrs. Marjorie Duncan Scott, Council Bluffs; Mrs. Gertrude May West, Moline; Mrs. Grace Owen Mennard, Sargent Bluffs, Iowa; Mrs. Ruth Pratt Smith, Letts; Helen Duncan. Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Julia Darrow Hunkins and Mrs. Marie Overholt Spaethe, from here. There were 24 members in the 1919 class.Close to 260 persons attended the reunion held in the floral hall at the Louisa County Fairgrounds. Master of ceremonies for the evening was R o 11 i n Smith. Coining from the farthestdistance were Rev. and Mrs. Enoch Sanford from Quito. Ecuador, S. A., and Harlan Kerr, Seattle, Wash.. Representing the class of 1922 was Sam Myers, ColumbusJunction, the oldest class representative. Members of the 25 years class of 1944 attending were Bob Coon. Mrs. Kate Story, Mrs. Phyllis Utter, Royal Jennings. Harlan Kerr, Lois Hu-brev, Bob Meeker, Mrs. Betty Oakes, Earl Scott, ArnoldSmith,-Vernon Snyder, Mrs.Roberta Steele Parks, Rex Swailes and Mrs. Marjorie Sanford. They also were honored.Attending from the graduating class of 1969, all new alumni, were Beverly Greene, Melody Newell, Steve Fulton, Diane McCullough and Jane Jones. They were welcomed into the Alumni Association. Steve Fulton, as president of the class of 1969, gave the response for the class. Jane Jones participated in the program with a vocal soto accompanied by Melody Newell.A special feature of the reunion this year was a display of large pictures of all the classes which had been hung in the floral hall.A dance was held following the dinner, which was served bv Mrs. Verda Jones. The Morrisons played for the dance.Alumni officers in charge of arrangements this year included Frank Jamison, president; Craig Howell, vice-president;and Mrs. Kate Elliott, secretary-treasurer.Members of the Stephen Bausch family had four Colum-bus graduates attending the banquet. They included Marilyn Bausch. Jerold Bausch, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bausch and Mr. and Mrs. Phil Bausch.An Open House was held at the Columbus Community High School from 4:30 to 5:30 preceding the banquet, for alumni to visit the buildings.Joy PTA to sponsor
