College gone, but alumni gatherJohn K. Baily of Chicago was master of ceremonies when alumni from 18 states gathered at the Holiday Inn for the annual Lombard College dinner Saturday. Once located in Galesburg, the college folded in 1930.Mr. Harold Whitman, class of 1925, and Miss Gail Youngren, class of 1927 and general chairman for the dinner, both of whom received a Scroll of Honor at the Fifty Year Club Luncheon, were introduced at the dinner.Edwin George of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., who had received an alumni achievement award earlier in the day at Knox College, was also introduced to the alumni.THE ALUMNI also paid special tribute to Lauren and Mary Goff, who are moving to Florida in Uctober, for their more than 20 years of service to the Carl Sandburg Cottage.Entertainment for the dinner was provided by the fifty members of the Choral Dynamics under the direction of John Giles. Other music was provided by Mrs. Andrew Anderson of Oneida, who sang “The Cockeyed Optimist” and by Giles, who sang “After the Ball.”Special recognition was given to three members of the Montgomery family, Mrs. Minggloe Griffith, Mrs. Dare Wise and M.A. (Arne) Montgomery who had attended Lombard; three members of the Egan family, Mrs. Hazel Henry, Mrs. Grace Homes and Bob Egan; and three members of the Miles family, Mrs. Al-faretta Sutor, Mrs. Lillian Miles Marshall and Henry C. Miles, of Galesburg, whose grandfather, Henry Clay Miles, built Old Main.Also recognized were Mrs. Inez White Fritze, whose grandfather, Nehemiah White, was president of Lombard from 1875 to 1892, and Mrs. Marion Poor Wade Caindenton, whose parents both served on the faculty at Lombard and whose father was later named dean. Mrs. Fritz is also a four generation graduate of Lombard. Mrs. Camdenton's daughter, Mrs.Ann Rohda of Boulder, Col., also attended the dinner.Hosts and hostesses for the vening were Mr. and Mrs. Agilva Martin, Champaign; Mr. and Mrs. Kogert Egan, Mr. and Mrs Henry Inness, Mrs. Helen Larson McMillan, all of Galesburg, and WalterMillerof Colchester.Serving as chairmen of committees were Helen Lin-drother, invitations; Violet Field, menu; Mrs. Grace Egan Holmes, name tags; Miss Ann Weinmann, program; Helen Dopp Verner, registration; Mrs. Kathryn Blocklinger Bost, table decorations and Clarence Gittings, tickets.Miss Gail Youngren read parts of letters from Alice Simmons Cox, Pinellas Park, Fla.; Willie Alice Harris Dris-kill, Columbus, Miss, and Roy(Rody) Lamb, Corvallis, Ore. She also read a poem by Catharine Crissey Probst, Lake Worth, Fla.Persons speaking to the group included Bill Hetland, managing editor of the Register-Mail, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Creighton of the Galesburg Post and Phil Watkins, director of alumni affairs at Knox College.Seventy-five alumni and friends gathered for a continental breakfast Sunday morning.
