Prominent Local Couple Celebrate 50th AnniversarylI _J. Edwin Brainard And Wife To Mark Event On June 15th With•Reception At Their Home; Wedding TookPlace In This Town •All Branford may fittingly felicitate with former Lieut. Governor J Edwin Brainard and Mrs. Brainard on Monday, June 15, the occasion beingthe fiftieth wedding anniversary of that well known and exceedingly well liked Branford couple.Mr. Brainard married Elizabeth Bartholomew in this town on June 15, 1881, and thus will have completed 50 years of marital happiness one week from next Monday. To celebrate the event Mr and Mrs. Brainard will hold a reception at 'their home on Windmill Hill, to which all friends and acquaintances are cordially invited, without the formality of a written invitation.Mr. Brainard was born in Meriden, the son of Dr and Mrs. E. W. Brainard. The elder Brainard lost his life some years ago at Montowese crossing. The Brainard family were early settlers in Connecticut. The former Lieutenant Governor moved to Branford when he was three years of age and has lived here ever since.The couple have three sons, Major Edwin H. Brainard, president of theCurtis Wright Flying Service of New York City, Norman I), of the contracting firm of Bartlett, Brainard Company of Hartford, and Captain Spencer Brainard of Greenwich, and t New York City. There are also seven | grandchildren.Mr. Brainard has been prominent in the political, business, social and religious life of Branford for many years. He has been a representative from this town in the General Assembly, a senator of the 12th senatorial district, Lieutpnant Governor of the state for two terms, member of the Republican. State Central committee for 10 years, chairman of the Republican town committee for 14 years. He is president of the Peoples Bank and Trust Co., is prominent in affairs of the Congregational Church, is a 32d degree Mason, member of the Shrine, the Elks, Knights Templars and the Knights of Pythias.Many relatives and friends of the couple from throughout the state and New York will be present at the anniversary celebration which will last throughout the day and evening.
