THURSDAY.Mr. and Mrs. Thomas D. Harding of this city and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lang of Galena township, this county, yesterday celebrated their golden and silver weddings, respectively, the*first mentioned couple being married May 25, 1854, and the last mentioned couple May 25, 1879.The occasion was celebrated wlthj a picnic dinner, partaken of at noon on the lawn at the side of Mr. and Mrs. Harding's home, 1106 Ridge street, the tables being spread under neath a canopy. Covers were laid for 105. The feast was attended by relatives, friends on Mr. Harding’s rural route, and the Oak Leaf society of Lamb's chapel, of which Mrs. Charles Lang is a member. The members of the above society presented Mr. and Mrs. Lang a handsome silver tea set.In the evening Mr. and Mrs. Harding were at home to their friends, Patton post, of which Comrade Harding is a member, being past commander, and ex-senior vice commander and ex-quartermaster, calling in a body, accompanied by the Woman's Relief corps, these two organizations assembling at the home of Comrade McCurdy and wife, and marching from there to Comrade Harding’s home.The house was prettily decorated with white lilacs, yellow tulips and yellow roses. -In the front parlor stood an immense Jardiniere filled with lilacs and yellow tulips. The dining room was lighted with old-fashioned candles. Over the center table were three large bells covered with yellow, while strings of myrtle extended to the corners of the table, in the center of which was a mammoth bowl of yellow roses. The refreshments were dainty and palatable and very much relished, the service being in keeping with the other appointments.In the afternoon souvenirs consisting of two cards, tied with a silken bow, to which was attached an imitation gold and silver bell, were given each guest. One of the cards read “1854-1904 Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Harding,” and the other *’xo79-1904 Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lang.” In the evening the souvenir consisted of two cards with a bow and imitation gold bell and photographs of Mr. and Mrs. Harding, on one card; on the other card being, in gilt letters, May 25, 54 and 04. .%All of the ten children living were present. The following are their names: Oscar Harding of Michigan City, Franklin Harding of Oswego, Kan., Lucius Harding of Michigan City, Thomas D. Harding, Jr., of La Porte, Mrs. Eva Payne of Westville, Mrs. Ada Lang of Galena township, Mrs. Emma Suit of Plymouth, Miss Elizabeth Harding of LaPorte, Mrs. Sylvia Huckins of Door Village and Miss Winifred Harding of LaPorte.The following persons were present from out of town: P. W. Harding, Kansas; Rice Harding of Buchanan, cousin of Mr.. Harding; Mesdames M. A. and Helen Webster, Westville; Mr. and Mrs. W. P. .Suit, Plymouth; and Mesdames J. D. Niel and Cordy Cress Chicago.Letters of congratulation were received from many different states.Each of the children of Mr. and Mrs. Harding presented them a gift of gold coin; Patton post presented a gold-headed, ebony cane, handsomely and appropriately engraved; the W. R. C. presented a rocker, as did the post-office force. There were many other beautiful gifts.Nearly, if not quite, 100 persons were entertained in the evening.The half-century anniversary, as well as the quarter century, was thus duly celebrated. Everything was propitious. The weather could not have been more appropriate, and the felicitousness of the occasion was marked and successful. That Mr. and Mrs. Harding may live to celebrate their diamond wedding, and air. and Mrs. Lang their golden wedding, Is, we are sure, the wish of all.
