Due to Mr. Goldman being ill! there was not a big celebration planned. Their threesons— Wesley, Weldon and Raymond and wives— and three of their grandchildrenand two great-grandchildrenspent Sunday evening with the Goldmans in honor of the occasion.9They enjoyed a cake baked by their granddaughter, GayleWhiddon. ft was served withlemonade.This quiet celebration appears typical of the Goldman s Who have lived all \ 69 years of their married life ^i|n the same area five miles bf Dfacanvllte:' V After they were married May , 26,1007, Tom and Alta i Goldman worked the Tit-terington Farm south of Camp Wisdom for 52 years until he retired in 1955. In. that time, Tom outlived three landlords. Duncanville to the east, Cedar Hill to the south and Florence Hill to the west were the only rinse villages. Dallas ofcourse was the big city, but was then miles away. Today they are in the corporate limits of the City of Dallas.Tom began farming in 1907with just two mules on 14 acresof land. When he retired, he was working 125 acresusing the latest in mechanizedequipment.In fact, he owned the first tractor in the area, buying a Ford tractor in 1923. But Tom and his brother, Alex, broke and cleared a lot of the valley, changing it to farming country.Three of the Goldman's four sons are still living. Raymond and Weldon Goldman live in Duncanville and Wesley Goldmaq in OakCliff. Another son, Mason,was 24 when struck and killed4by lightening while working on the farm in 1938.Both Mr. and Mrs. Goldman come from families with highlongevity.Four of his brothers andsisters are still living.Louis, the baby of the familyat 72, lives in Houston. Asister, Mrs. Louisa Dea-son and her husband, W. M.ason-of-Oleburney-will—be-marking their 60th wedding anniversary soon.His grandmother was 106 years old when she died.Mrs. Goldman is from a family of 14 children(“We have lots of kinfolks,” she confides), and six still are living. Mrs. Ethel Hoskins of Oak Cliff if theyoungest at 75 and Mrs. EvaPowell of Grand Prairie is the oldest at 87.Thomas Goldman Sr. movedto the area from Georgiain 1894. They originally settled at Mesquite, then later came to the Duncanville area. Goldman still has a letter Ms father wrote his brothei in Lincolnton, Ga., relating Ms experiences in the “movewest.” The family came partof the way be covered wagon, then put the wagon and livestock aboard a train for theremainder of the trip.Mrs. Goldman's family also migrated from the south, coming from Alabama to settle in thd Arlington area.
