HINTON, May 31—One of Summers county’s most widely knownfarmers and his wife, were honored recently when friends andmembers of the family arranged asurprise celebration honoring their golden wedding anniversary.He is Andrew L. Campbell, known to hundreds of county Four-H children as “Uncle Andy’’ and the “Godfather” of the county’s Four-H camp which bears hisW - .7 ** '7’*;'^ h r,7';*-The fine Four-H camp, comprising 20 acres of land in the Greenbrier river near Greenbrier Springs, is only in existence because of Mr. Campbell’s generosity. In 1933, Mr. Campbell donated the land to the county for aFour-H camp for a period of 20years. In addition to this, he furnished the timber for the five spacious cabins which have been constructed or the grounds.Camp Campbell is not only-known to Four-H children of thiscounty, but throughout this entiresection. Beginning on June 1, the camp has been engaged for the entire summer. There is not an open week from June 1, to September 1.Four-H organizations from Greenbrier, Monroe, Summers, and Mercer counties will have periods at the camp, while an organization from Virginia has engaged the camp for a week in July.The camp is also a favorite spot for one-day outings of all manneror organizations. Annually theSummers County Hod and Gun club has its outing at the Camp during which time the winners in the club’s vermin contest are announced. 7;r, . .Mr Campbell was born, February 16, 1365, near Gap Mills, in Monroe county, and moved to Summers county on September 17, | 1886, He was married at Barger ; Springs, May 25, 1887, to Miss Elizabeth McKendree Webb.Ten children born to this unionnow survive.
