WASHINGTON (AP) — Mary Mat thews of Yorktown will be the sponsor of the new cruiser Yorktown when its keel is laid during the Yorktown bicentennial celebration in mid-October. Sen. John Warner announced Wednesday. The new ship will be constructed at In galls Shipbuilding Division in Pascagoula, Miss., where the keel laying will take place. Mrs. Matthews and her husband, Nick, operate Nick’s Seafood Pavilion, a noted Yorktown restaurant. She immigrated to the United States from Greece in 1930. In 1972, the couple donated the land on which the Yorktown Victory Center was built. “Mary Matthews exemplifies the millions of Americans who came to these shores from other lands and have pro spered because of America’s opportuni ty,” Warner said. ‘She represents what America is all about.”
