Daphne E. BrannDaphne Brann will celebrate 100th birthdayTARPON SPRINGS, Fla. -Daphne E. (Twigg) Brann will celebrate her 100th birthday Aug. 4. An open house celebration will be hosted by her children at the First Methodist Church Outreach Center in Tarpon Springs.Mrs. Brann was born in Oliver’s Grove, Oldtown, Md., the eighth of 10 children born to Horace R. and Lourenna M. Twigg. She is the last living member of her family.Mrs. Brann graduated from Allegany High School in 1909. In 1988 she attended the 100th celebration of the school and was the oldest living graduate there. She also attended Frost-burg Normal School and graduated from Tri-State Business School of Cumberland.Mrs. Brann was employed for six years as a stenographer at Gross Brothers where she met the Rev. Oliver P. Brann. The couple was married Oct. 25, 1916, at the Assembly of God Church, Westernport, Md. They had three children, the Rev. O. Kenneth Brann, Elizabethtown, Ky.; L. Marguerite Bedford, Holiday; and Naomi B. Helsel, New Port Richey. Mrs. Brann also has seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.The Rev. Brann served as pastor of the Assembly of God Church before leaving Westernport in 1921. Mrs. Brann and her husband moved to Canton,* Cinn.; Mansfield, Ohio; Ashland, Ohio; and Binghamton, N.Y. where the Rev. Brann had served as pastor to several churches. The couple returned to Westernport in 1935 where they retired in 1948. The Rev. Brann died Aug. 2,1951.For almost six years, Mrs. Brann has lived with her daughter, Mrs. Bedford. She is an avid and enthusiastic reader having read the Bible through at least once every year for many years. Mrs. Brann attends the Assembly of God Church in Tarpon Springs.
