Sara Serena has taken over her other's den in our apartment, nstead of posters on the wall, here are pictures of little, widened kiddies. Instead of the smell if pipe tobacco coming from the •num. the scent is Johnson and Johnson's Baby Oil. Sara is our mperstar with Mother and ?ather taking a backseat to this vondrous little being.LPIIHy Mother was right. After a lornet-bumpy car ride from leJwein to, Tripoli last Sunday light. Mom quipped, “I bet the •ide will jiggle the baby loose.” A ioctor and three nurses also lelped. I am told.miSarly the following morning, thelirth began. ‘‘Lee, I think it’s ime,” whispered My Wife as she jostled me awake. I called the loclor while My Wife limed the contract ions and we sped to the lospital. On the way, 1 picked up a camera. “I’ve got a scoop,” 1 said to myself. The Wife said, “Drive faster!”LP11At (he hospital, My Wife was whisked away to a private room sfter the elevator carried us to iourth floor. It was 6:30 a.m. I was allowed to remain with her after she was prepared for the irdeal to come. I chattered nervously making very little sense. Sedatives took their toll on My Dear Heart and then a nurseSllffSested. “Whv don’t vnu on ante»LPo!Asia. A early morning visitor made me feel worse. “Waiting on your wife, huh?” the male voice intoned surmising the situation which had me hiding beneath an end table in the fourth floor hallway. “Well, everything will be alright. My Wife had two kids and then we lost the third one, you know,” he advised. Encouraging words they were not. I ran to the silbalh in a room nearby and cried.LPIIAt 9:07 that morning, I was getting cold, sad and mad; in that order. I had just made up my mind to rush down the hallway, storm the delivery room and rescue My Wife from the hands of fiends that dared make her scream, when two masked women came thru the delivery room door. One motioned for me lo come their way. “Well, here you are,” a masked voice exclaimed and offered me a small white bundle. It was a baby rubbing its eyes with little fists and squirming beneath a blanket. “Did I make that,” I wanted to know. They told me I did and my eyes started to water. T never cry, you know.LPIIMy Wife repaired to Room 424. It was the same fourth floor at Mercy Hospital that her husband terrorized the hospital staff while he recovered from a hernia operation, in fact entire “hernia crew” was there: NurseTollman, Nurse Nissen, Mrs.Beny and the. rest. Doting husband that 1 am, J visited My Wife often and Sara, too. The nurses were tolerant. They changed Sara, watered the flowers, attended .My Wife andtears. My Wife is feeling fine and Our Daughter is alright. Loo. The new father spends a lot of time reading Similac can labels now instead of Playboy. It’s fun though. All the trials and tribulations that come before congratulations made it more exciting. Friends and relatives can visit us anytime. Adults' admission is 25 cents and children get in for 10 cents. (We gotta pay for this kid somehow1,) My Wife smiles a lot and Sara Serena can be easily recognized in a crowd: she’s the most beautiful baby in the world.LPIIDon’t fee! bad, Mercy Hospital. W. Dempsey, the guest.Mrs. Love opened the session with the Lord’s Prayer and the flag salute in unison. After roll call and other reports, group meetings were announced.Mrs. Blaine Fox will entertain the board at the Aug. 25 sessionset for S:30 a.m. AMrs. Ronald Goldsberry and Mrs. Alice Weber received secret pal gifts. Thank you note from Mrs. Richard Hansen was read.Prizes in games went to Mrs. Fred Blech, cloth game and Mrs. Fox, Mrs. Dempsey and Mrs. Hansen, television commercial. Mrs. Ross won the door prize.LAMONT - St. Mary’s Catholic church, Lamont, was the setting for the wedding of Nancy Goedken, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Goedken, Lamont, and Kevin Kress, son of Mr. and Mrs. LaVernc Kress, Rowley, today, Saturday, July 29.The 1 p.m. double ring ceremony was performed by the Ri. Rev. Msgr. Lorenz. Two bouquets of mixed flowers decorated the altar for the occasion.Audrey Decker presided at the organ and accompanied Mrs. Gus Gerstenberger, Hazleton, soloist.The bride, given in marriage by her parents, wore a floor -length gown of nylon organza. The bodice featured a cameo neckline, lantern sleeves and empire waistline. Vcnise lace braid, trimmed with tiny seed pearls, accented the neckline, sleeves, bodice and the front of the A-line skirt which cascaded into a chapel-length train. The bride’s fingertip blush veil of imported illusion was attached to n forward petal plateau of organza and tace petals trimmed with seed pearls and centered with crystal and pearl spears. The bride carried a cascade arrangement of white pompons with red roses.Maid of honorConnie Goedken, Lamont, sister of the bride, as maid of honor, wore a light blue gown with white daisy lace effect over the top. The empire waist was set off with a light blue satin bowwith long streamers. The dress had short puff sleeves with a small stand up collar. As a headpiece. Miss Goedken wore a light blue satin bow with streamers, to which were attached single daisies down the back. She carried a hand bouquet of blue daisies and while pompons.As bridesmaid, Diane K. Goedken, Lamont, sister of the bride, was attired like the maid of honor. The flower girl, Sharon Goedken, Lamont, another sister.was also gowned in blue. Her headpiece and flowers were also the same. The gowns had been made by Mrs. Norbcrl Goedken, Lamont. aunt of the bride.Arlic Dudley, Brandon, cousin of the bridegroom, was the ring bearer.A friend of the bridegroom, Wondcl Bures, Rowley, was the best man. Attendant was Russell Kress. Winthrop. brother of the bridegroom.Seal guestsCharles Goedken. I.amnnl, cousin of the bride, and Don Dudley, Brandon, cousin of the bridegroom, sealed the wedding guests. The men wore black tuxedos with white lacc shirts.With her turquoise blue polyester knit dress, Mrs. Goedken wore a pink carnation corsage. Mrs. Kress also wore a pink carnation corsage with her light blue polyester dress.A luncheon for 200 guests was held in the church hall after the ceremony. The three-tiered wedding cake, decorated in white and blue with pink roses, was topped with a miniature bridal couple. Mrs. Carl Fuhrman, Aurora, had made and decorated the cake which she served. Mrs. Donald Gushee. Aurora, served (he coffee and Mrs. Norbert Kortcnkamp. Aurora, the punch.Marilyn Goedken. Oelwein, cousin of the bride, was at the guest book. Joan Goedken. Lamont. sister of the bride, and. Debbie Kress, Rowley, sister of the bridegroom, helped with the gifts. Waitresses were the bride’s cousins, Betty, Patty, Shirley and Jane Goedken all of Lamont.For a wedding trip to Lake Okoboji and the Black Hills, the bride selected a blue and white polyester dress. After Aug: 7 the newlyweds will have a rural route Rowley address.The brtde is a 1970 graduate of the Starmont school. Her husband, a 1970 graduate of East Buchanan, is with lhirnischfeger Corp. in Cedar Rapids. But when they depart from the conventional “thank you” note for their wedding gifts, I think they are going too far.Today I received what was supposed to be a “thank you” note for a wedding gift I sent to a young couple. [The bride was the daughter of dear friends, so I sent a very expensive silver coffee service,]The acknowledgment was a folded piece of paper. On the front was “THANK YOU” commercially printed in gold letters. When I opened it there was a photographer’s picture of the couple on one side, and a short poera on the other with the couple’s names printed below. Abby, that was it! The bride did address the envelope by hand, which was the only personal touch.I was appalled. I wouldn’t have the nerve to say anything to the couple or to their parents, but thru you, Abby, I have been able to fume accordingly. Any comment? No name, please. APPALLEDDEAR APPALLED: Glad you didn’t have the nerve to say anything to the parents. After the kids say their “i do’s” their parents are not responsible for their actions. I agree, tho customs do change, good manners do not. The appropriate expression of gratitude is a personally written note—The exception being when the number, runs into the. high hundreds or into the thousands.[P. S. That couple at least sent a card. I was advised that a young couple was sent a check for their wedding gift, and the only acknowledgement ever received was a“thank you” written on the back of the cancelled check!!DEAR ABBY: I am an 18-year-old girl and I have been taking guitar lessons for some time now.
