On the afternoon, of March 26. he drove his platoon leader from Hinslaken, Germany into Hers-f eld, Germany, under constant aerial bursts, found cover for the vehicle and was ready to return when needed. That night he guided Lt. Connell, his platoon leader, over the same route and farther into the area covered by enemy fire. He then returned and led the platoon, into the- mortar position selected.
