Mrs. Elizabeth Borden, of Massillon celebrated her one hundredth blrthda; at the home of her daughter in Beards town, 111., on Sunday, July 22. Mrs Biggars is still in possession of he; full mental powers and is of sufficien physical strength to be about thlt; house. In early life Mrs. Biggars wa1married to Isaac Borden and thej oame to Massillon from Rochester, N Y., in 1844. Mr. Borden died in thii oity on May 4, 1852 Mrs. Borden trav eled to the principal cities of th« United States and made a livellhooc by teaching the art of fine embroidery, In 18fi2 Mrs. Borden was married Samuel Biggars in IfcfeadviJle, Pa.Mrs. Biggars is remembered as Mrs.Borden by many Massillon residents. Mr. and Mrs. Borden lived in this city eight years and it was from this city that their children left for avocations in the world of business. C. W. Borden, B. B. Borden and Edwin Borden enlisted at the beginning of the civil war and each received an honorable discharge at the close of hostilities.Relatives of Mrs. Borden still live in Massillon, Navarre and Pittsburg, while a number live in the West. Mrs. William S. Youn -, of Navarre, a daughter of Turenne Getz, of Chestnut st eet, Massillon, is a great grandchild of Mrs. Borden, and Miss Bernice Young a great gre^t grandchild. Mrs. John Mong, of East Main street, Massillon, is a grandchild. William Borden and Theo. Borden, of Pittsburg, also are grandchildren.Six of Mrs. Biggar's children are still living. Their ages run from 02 to 80 years and each is active.Mrs. Biggars recalls the days of President Buchanan and she attended regularly the Sunday school of which he was superintendent. President Buchanan was a bachelor but was engaged to a young lady at one time, who was Mrs. Biggars’ Sunday Echool teacher. Jealousy is supposed to have prompted tho President’s fianoee to commit suicide only a few days befcre the wedding day. Mrs. Biggars claimed the warm personal friendship of tho late President MoKinley. Shehas several letters in her possessionwritten by him.Five generations of this family cflongevity are living, the fifth generation consisting of two infants le a than a year old.
