Local AAUW branchearns national awardThe Janesville branch of the American Association of University Women received the 5-Star award during the national convention.The local branch was one of 411 out of 1,750 AAUW branches nationwide to earn the award. It honors branches for exemplary progress in the areas of membership development, public policy, fund raising, community action and leadership,“We are proud to be among top AAUW branches nationwide to have received the 5-Star Award,” said Janet Arndt, local president.“Through community action, public policy and membership development, we consistently meet goals that will ensure our branch will remain a vital and relevant organization in our community now and in years to come,”Arndt added.Convention participants discussed how AAUW will try to continue to transform the national education reform debates through educational research, legislative action, school outreach and branch programming,she said.Through programs on gender equity, self-esteem and sexual harassment aimed at students, teachers and school administrators, branches have made a significant impact in communities nationwide, according to an AAUW release.Judith Kneece, a local member and former Wisconsin state president and Great Lakes Regional Director, was elected vice president of membership for the national AAUW board.
