Eveard and Irene HarrisonIrene and Eveard T. Harrison of Walla Walla are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary with their children during several gatherings over the summer.The couple, who met as young adults at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Emmett, Idaho, married July 10, 1940, at the Mormon Temple in Logan, Utah.Eveard was a soil scientist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service for 36 years. He also taught soils classes at Walla Walla Community College and retired in 1974. He is a member of Soil and Water Conservation Society of America, enjoys genealogy, gardening, writing and collecting family histories. He volunteered 26 years with the Mormon Genealogical Libraiy and was its director for 15 years.As a young adult Irene taught at schools in Idaho and Colfax. Over the years, the couple lived in Walla Walla, Monument and Pendleton, Colfax, Yakima and Spokane. They returned to Walla Walla 26 years ago. Irene is a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron honor society. A homemaker, she enjoys genealogy, gardening and sewing and also volunteered at the Mormon Genealogy Library.The couple have three daughters, Karen Miller of Laie, Hawaii, Rinda Healey of Keller, Texas, and IleneBroman of San Diego; two sons,Bart Harrison of Payson, Utah, andFrank Harrison of Phoenix, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren and four great-EVEARD AND IRENE HARRISONgrandchildren.
