Busy Weekend On Tap At Stafford SpeedwaySTAFFORD - It will be a busy weekend for competitors at the Stafford Springs Motor Speedway with seven features planned for Saturday and Sunday.Saturday evening the NASCAR modifieds, All-Americn Sportsman, and mini-midgets, fill the 12-race, three-feature card. Action begins at 7:30 p.m.A total of 11 drivers have tasted victory in the NASCAR Modified division making the 1975 Saturday season a record breaker. Only one driver has been able to make repeat visits to victory lane with Carl ‘Bugs' Stevens, the track’s '74 champion, managing three wins. Joining Stevens in the victory category are Richie Evans, Satch Worley, Moose Hewitt, Bob Santos, Geoff Bodine, Ron Bouchard. Ray Miller, Ed Flemke, Fred DeSarro and the most recent winner Bobby Vee. With the exception of Evans and Worley the entire list of former winners are expected to take part in the Saturday show.In the All-American Sportsman Division Gary Ryan and Keith Williams will face off for supremacy in the junior ranks. Roth drivers are tied in the win category with four apiece and Saturday night’s 20-lap feature islooked upon as the rubber match.Ron Ives continues to dominate the mini-midget division but current point-runner Ed Asklar, along with Russ Dowd and Dick Wright, will attempt to put a stop to the aces string of wins.Sunday evening will bring the curtain down on the seven-feature weekend with double features listed for both the minimidgets and the small-block modifieds.13-Year-0lds Top HartfordVERNON — The Vernon 13-year-old All-Stars topped Hartford, 9-6, Tuesday night to advance in the state tournament.Brian Fisher pitched a four-hitter for the win and he was backed by Randy Mocadlo’s three safeties including a double that brought in the winning run.Tim Skoly also had two hits.The Vernon club will be in action again Saturday at 2 p.m. at Henry Park against an opponent to be determined.
