69 YEARS AGOJoshua Jayne With a Party of Twelve Arrived in Th sCounty.Uncle Joshua Jayne and wife, Mrs. Minerva Tate and daughter, Miss Mattie, are today at the Chase sohool house near Hayden celebrating the arrival of Mr. Jayne and Mrs. Tate to this county just 69 years ago. They, are the only remaining members of a party of twelve that settled here on that date. The party leftNew York on the 1st of July, 1837, and landed at Madison on the 18th after a long ride on the Ohio river on a flat boat, or raft. Mr. Jayne tells with joy of many wild animals that were here at that lime, and, how he would hideto keep out of their way, andabout the forests being hewn into huts, then seeing them disappear and the city of today appearing. It is these changes that make Mr. Jayne enjoy so well this celebration, as it takes him back to when nature ruled and its hand was shown so plainly on everything.w*
