fall of 1977, are being made through the office of Bishop John King Mussio and Msgr. Henry O’Donnell of the Dioceseof Steubenville.James Turano, head of program development for Milne Mausoleum Company, said the 600 *plus figfure was the minimum needed for what he called the “first phase” of construction. The first phase includes a receiving chapel in the mausoleum.Herman Castner, cemetery caretaker, said a survey of 17 parishes in the diocese was being conducted and that more than 600 requests for crypts had been received from the first threeparishes contacted. Both Castner and Turano believe the final figure may go as high as 1,200 in what is called the second phase of planning. A final decision on the second phase will be made in about six weeks, Turano said.Financing of the mausoleum will be on a pay as you go basis. No final cost estimates were given, although Castner said costs for the first phase were given, although Castner said costs for the first phase may be about $800,000.Neither Castner nor Turano mentioned prices, but Turano said some of the crypts “were comparable to the cost of conventional ground burial.” There are four kinds of crypt arrangements being offered: the single, the “tandem” or back to back crypts, side by side and the couch”, or double crypt.Turano said caskets of any material can be placed within the crypts, which will be lined with reinforced concrete. The two men said community mausoleums were growing in acceptance across the country, with a big reason being lower prices.More and more people prefer above ground burial which has caused a big demand,” Turano commented] The prices are very affordable for the average family.“The traditional manner in which they're built is very appealing.”Without ground or a headstone, there is little maintenance necessary, no weeds to pull up flowers to plant, no grave to deteriorate or sink. However, there also will be no markers, or no flags for war veterans. Castner said the crypts will be as uniform as possible.Turano added that families who preferred some kind of decoration or marker at a grave site can still have ground burials. When work is completed, Castner expects the mausoleum to occupy 10 per cent of the space at Mt. Calvary. “We'll still have 90 per cent ground burials.” he said.mausoleumns building has decreased. He attributed that tomaterials and labor will be used on the site.7,NationSearsanMusiSale Mon., July 19thru Tues., July 20th!mM2 water levels give added wash day versatilityittl£Large capacity— 38% more washspace than our regular size2 wash/rinsetemperature combinations for washday flexibilitySave Over ®3C
