Ryan, Martinsburg, W.Va., formerly of Cumberland, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house for approximately 300 guests on June 27.The Ryaiis were married June 25,1921, by the late Rev. J. E. Kistler in the parsonage of the Assemblies of God Church, in Cumberland.Mrs. Ryan is the daughter of the late Mr, and Mrs, Emory J. Wigfietd and Mr. Ryan is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Wesley Ryan, of Cumberland.They are the parents ot six children, Mrs, Charles V, (Ruby) Sullivan, M”S. George (Miriam) Ellis, Mrs. Blakeley (Dorothy) Martin, Mrs. William (Thelma) Crawford, end one son, Reginald Ryan, all of Martinsburg. One son, Robert, died in infancy. They have 15 grandchildren.Miss Joann Vincent and Mrs. Charles Vincent cut hnd served the cake which they presented to the Ryans as a gift. Mrs. Everett Barnhart assisted at the punch bowl. Registering guests were Jenny Martin and Shiriey Crawford while gifts were opened by Vicki and Mary Anne Sullivan, all grandchildren of Mr. and Mr*. Ryan*Attending were out-of-town guests from Washington, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, California, Florida, and Charleston.Mr. and Mrs. Ryan are well known in the Martinsburg area after operating a candy store in downtown Martins burg for 34 years.They left the Cumberland area in 1937.FAA’s FirstSAN DIEGO, Calif. lt;AP) — Ruth Dennis has become the first Federal Aviation Administration flight service station chief, a position she took over on her 46th birthday.She joined the FAA in 1944 ‘'when they were recruiting women for those romantic war jobs.’* She became the first woman watch supervisor in the western region and, in 1963, became the first and only woman duty officer in the FAA system in the regional control office at Los Angeles.Four years later she was made an advisory staff spe cialist for 16 flight service sta lions in Southern California and Arizona, a post she held until she became the first female flight service station chief among the 2,400 employes in the FAA. g
