He also gave a brief history of the fair and told of the amount of work (being clone by fair boosters without pay, their only object being to provide entertainment for the people of Delphos and the surrounding* farm community and to further the interests of Delphos and surrounding community and for- the educational benefits to be derived.The fair was started more than j nine years ago (this year’s fair would be the tenth) and started off without funds. In these years, the fair has been built up and a large quantity of equipment has been purchased. It has grown each year and is now too big a proposition to be hampered by restrictions as to location, he said.; Henry A. Lang also spoke, telling ' of the sacrifices which have been made by many to make the fair a success and stressing the importance of council granting the request of the members of the fair board.II, D, Bickel, service director and former president of the fair, also spoke in favor of granting the request. L. C. Laudick, member of the fair board, also spoke briefly, giving the attitude of the board in case they should be restricted as to location.I-t was suggested also by members of the board that if there are any objectionable features as to sanitation which can be remedied, this will be done.After much- discussion on both sides, council voted on the matter, four members, Stallkamp, Peiffer, Scherger and Harter voting for the motion and Wesco, Griffith and Say voting against it, these three favoring giving* permission for the use of the streets without restriction.Following the council meeting, a meeting of the fair board was held. It was then decided to call a meeting of business men to consider what shall be done concerning the fair. This meeting will be held af the city building at 7:30 Friday night.It is the opinion of the members; of the board that the fair- cannot be held under the conditions imposed by council. It is desired, however, that the final decision be made by the business people of the city.It is understood that some of the (North Main street property o'wners who signed the petition which was presented 'to council are planning* to circulate a counter petition, withdrawing their objection and asking that permission be granted to use the street as they do not desire to have the fair abandoned.
