DeSarro Outduels Bodine For WinSTAFFORD — Connecticut State Champ Fred DeSarro survived a massive pileup during the modified feature event and rode to his second victory of the season Friday night at Stafford Speedway. Sharing the winner’s circle with DeSarro was Vernon’s Dick Goulet in the street stock division and Agawam’s Tommy Rosati in the limited sportsman division main events.DeSarro entered into a side by side battle with hot running Geoff Bodine for the last fifteen laps of the race. Bodine tried to pass DeSarro on the backstretch for the last ten laps, but DeSarro utilized an advantage gained by running better than Bodine through the turns. DeSarro’s Ien Boehler modified was powered by a small block Chevrolet.Six cars were eliminated from the 26 car field when a pileup occurred in the third turn after Brian Ross blew a motor in the Mvstic Missle Pinto. Ross spun to the infield, but Ron Bouchard, coming down the backstretch full bore, slid on the oil and slammed the wall. The Bob Judkins Vega he was driving was destroyed in the crash, with only the roll cage surrounding the driver’s compartment left intact.After Bouchard bounced off the wall, Ed Flemke, Sonny O'Sullivan, Bugs Stevens, and Danbury champ Don I^aJoie piled up. Each of their modifieds was bent up bad enough not to compete. DeSarro and Bodine spun around to avoid the pileup and continued in the race after the restart.Third in the feature event was Ray Miller, who was followed by John Rosati. Gene Bergin was fifth, followed by Dick Dunn.
