Three People Lost Lives Farm Fire at Friedenstal Saturday AfternoonMr. and Adolph Withold and Infant Son Dead; Another Person Burned Seriously; Fire Started in Kitchen Where Tar Was HeatingCoroner Dr. F. H. Sutherlandviewed the remains and afterToll of a fire which destroyed the farm home of A. Wiethold, 10 miles southeast of Fairview Saturday afternoon last, standsat three, following the death ofMr. and Mrs. A. Wiethold in the fire July 10 and the death of their two-year-old son in Fairview hospital the following day.Cause of the fire is believed to have been a burning can of tar which Mr. Wiethold was heating on the stove for use In repairing the roof of farm buildings. Apparently he left the house and did not return until* screams from the house warned him all was not well and he found a fire well underway.The man then helped his father, August Wiethold, from the burning building, extinguished his blazing clothing and then climbed a ladder to a window ip the second storey of the house, returning to the window to drop the infant to its grandfather, standing below the window. Mr. Wiethold left the window, apparently to rescue his wife, and was not seen after that time. The children rushed to neighbors and a call was made to the Fairview fire department but nothing could be done to check the blaze. The bodies of the two adults were found later.August Wiethold and the baby were taken to Fairview hospital for treatment, the child dying the following day from the effects of bums received. At latest reports the man wasLe making* satisfactory progress.it.a report of R.C.M.P. investigation was received it was decided an inquest was unnecessary.Adolph August Wiethold was born in Barholt, Germany, September 14, 1904, and came to Canada in 1922, making his home on a farm in the Fairview district since that time.Hilde Wiethold, a native of Rees, Germany, was born February 23, 1907, and came to Canada 10 years ago, to the Fairview district.Toon Wiethold, two-year-old son of the above couple, was born Christmas day, 1945. /Survivors aie: two daughters Maria and Hilda; one son, Hans; Mr. Wiethold *s father. August Wiethold; Mr. *7*it-hold’s four sisters, Mrs. Helen Ressler and Mrs. Liesse Peters of Hines Creek, Mrs. Frances Booker of Lac La Blche, Alta., Mrs. Terrie Newman of Onoway, Alta.; Mrs. Wiethold’s three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Bauman and Mrs. Theresa Weasels of Erkrde, Germany, Mrs. Trude Oldenkott of Rees, Germany.The funeral was held at the Roman Catholic church, Friedenstal, Thursday of this week Rev. Fr. Kindervater officiating, with interment in Friedenstal cemetery. Griep Humphries funeral directors.Miss Kathryn Newman. Grande Prairie, was a guest at the W. E. Moore home Sunday last.
