Winslow, DL. D., (University of Wisconsin 1904, Dawrance ' 1912), was born Oct. 4, 1891,, at Nuada, Livingston county, N. Y, Ha graduated at tRaclne college, WU., in 1871, and entered upon tha study ol law in the law office of ft.O. Hand, and later in the law office of Fuller Dyer. He finished hi*, course of reading in the Saw department of the Univarsiiif of Wisconsin, frotn which he graduated in 1879, and entered upon the practice at Racine. He was for several Jfaer*! city attorney of Racine, dent of the American Institute of Criminology during the year beginning September 1, 1911. la April,1883, he was elected circuit judge of the First judicial circuit, and entered upon judicial duties in Jan,1884, serving in that capacity (being re-elected) until May 4* 1891, when he was appointed associate justice of tho supreme court, inj place of Hon. David Taylor, deceased. In April, 3892, he was elected to fill the residue of Judge Taylor’s j term; in April, 1S95, h© was reelected for a full term; and again reelected for a full term la April, 1905 and 1915. He became chief ■ justice by reason of seniority of service upon the death of Chief 1 Justice Cassoday, Dec. 30, 190?. He I is the author of a history of the *u~ preme court of Wisconsin from . 1848 to 1880, entitled ‘'The Story I of a Great Court.*'
