SURPRISE ONPIONEERSaturday evening, July 8, about two hundred relatives and friends gathered at the home of W. G. Williams, commonly known as “Uncie Green,” northwest of Carbnndale, an remin ledhim that he was 89 years ! of age. Mr Williams is a Jackson county“pioneer. and helped to clear off the timber from the site of Carbon-dale to build the first house.Mr. Williams has been in rather feeble health for the past year butWm. He has seen the town of Csrbondale grow from the originalforest to a city of 7000 persons. Theworld has changed greatly since he has lived in it.
