Snipe, presi-ient of the staff of the hospital, ihen gave a welcome in which he stated that tin* large audience, in attending, was expressing its lonor to the nurses and their levotion to the hospital. In introducing Hon. Arthur Sewall, ^resident of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Snipe spoke of the time, means, and wisdom that William D. Sewall, Mr. Sewalls father, uul bestowed upon the hospital.Mr. Sewall spoke of graduation is the best event of the hospital year. He mentioned the text of i recently heard sermon. “What ye sow. ye shall heap,” and spoke f its practice all through life. He also gave thanks to all tin* loetors who gave freely of their Lime in providing lectures for Lhe student nurses.Walter Olsen sang “Through lhe Years*’ by Vincent Youman, us his first musical selection, aft rr which Miss Irene Zwisler, superintendent of nurses at the Lewiston General hospital and president of the Maine Board of Registration of Nurses, addressed lhe nurses In speaking of nursing Miss Zwisler said that it is unfair to assume that one indi vidual can toll what lib' demands of others in these times. Messenger gave a report on the meeting of the Medomak Regional Garden club at Topsham at which Mrs. Sumner Sewall, wife of the Governor of Maine spoke on “Conservation” and urged members to plant Victory gardens in their back yards.Resolutions on the death of a member, Mrs Rose Hunter, were read by Mrs. I. A. Trueworthy, in tin* absence of Miss Minnie W hite.A donation was made to the current drive for funds for the Bath playgrounds.Mr Richard Sherwood was appointed to the standing committee on hospitality to till the vacancy caused by the death of Mrs HunterMr Granville Colhy, president of tin* club, and Mrs. Maurice Libby were named as co-chairmen of the RubinofT concert to take place the coming Fall Other members of this committee are Miss Christine Curtis, chairman of Iinance. Mrs G Baer Cotmard. chairman of reception committee; Miss Elea* nor Danforth, chairman of thebetween midnight Sunday and midnight Wednesday, the blackout came at 10.30 last night and lasted 20 minutes, the all clear being sounded at 10.50. After waiting Monday and Tuesday nights with nothing happening, members of defense organizations throughout the city were on the alert that night as they realized it was the only time it could come. Residents were waiting with ears cocked for the alarm and in some instances, lights were extinguished before more than a half dozen blasts sounded on the fire alarm.A few minor violations were noted by patrol wardens and police'. A ear, with lights on full beam, t ra versed W ash i ngtonstreet and down Elm without halting at commands fired by police and wardens.-. But the number was noted and the owner has been or will be informed to appear before City Marshal Percy W. Kingsbury.A Center street resident, the head of one of the police groups, left his home hastily to report to the Courthouse and left a light burning inside. A few other scattered occurrences of similar nature were noted but there were no major violations nor did any accidents mar the test.Optional with the war industries, the Bath Iron Works Corp . was almost completely blacked out but the Hyde Windlass worked throughout the test and no lights were extinguished.
