POLITICAL EYESSCAN MID-WESTIBoth Parties Are PlanningCampaigns as PrimaryElections ApproachCHICAGO, July 9—(/P)—Blastedinto the open by .Republican “fighting talk” at the party’s eighteenth anniversary celebration in Michigan, the campaign for control of congressional delegations from the agricultural Mid-West was well under way.The Democrats are fighting forretention of “new deal” spokesmenin territory once considered “stand-pat” Republican, but most of which was carried by the Democrats in the 1932 Roosevelt “landslide.”Illinois has by far the largest number of seats to be fought for, 27, of which IS were Democrats at the last session of Congress, eight were Republican and one vacant.Campaigns are generally slated to open officially in August, in all but two of the states. Wisconsin and Nebraska must yet get primary elections out of the way. I letcher of Pennsylvania, recently named chairman of the national committee, planned a series of conferences in Chicago beginning today. The Chicago Tribune said Fletcher hoped to bring $1,-UOO.OOO into the party’s treasury this summer and that Chicago s tentative quota had been fixed at $100,000.The Democrats also regard this ground as important.
