Salimbene, vice president, and Tony lt;aputo,treasurer.Honor Founders Expansion of At Buccinese Cigar CompanyCelebration Plant PlannedSeven of the original founders of the Buccinese society in Altoona were honored at a banquet last evening in the lodge home at Eighth avenue and Seventh street. The banquet culminated a four-day celebration in observance of the 42nd anniversary of the society* beginning in Altoona. Those honored were Nick DeStadio, Frank Uurio, Ralph Prezioso, Angelo Fasano, Nick Rciarrillo, Joseph Branda and Nick DeLeo.The society, which takes its name from the town of Buceino, Salerno, Italy was organized in Altoona in 1910 by citizens who came to America from that town. It has as its purpose the promotion of brotherhood and assistance in time of sickness and death to the former residents of the town who are members of the society. The original number of charter members was 35. but in the intervening years some have died and some have returned to their old town.Chick Fernieola, one of the principal organizers of the society in Altoona hut who moved to Newark, N. J., in 1926, was a visitor to the lodge home during the four-day celebration.(Special to Altoona Mirror)PHIUPSBURG The General Cigar company plant, in North Philipsburg. has completed negotiations for the expansion of production facilities as was announced by Lewis Stein, president of the Philipsburg Association of Commerce.The new one-story structure, to be erected immediately, will add 14 000 square f eet of floor space to the present 25,000 square foot building When placed in operation, the company expects to add 200 more employes, of which 175 will be women.This wall bring the total number of workers at the plant to 500 and will mean an annual payroll of approximately $1,000,000 annually to the community. There will be placed in the new structure 40 new machines. There are 60 in the present structure.The present expansion program by the General Cigar company is the result of a verbal agreement made five years ago when the firm first established operations in this community.
