Stephen Watts Kearny, -who camped with his-Dragoon company on. the .lake shore and ate lunch near the site of the present park. That was in 1320, when Kearny was a captain. Long lines of hopeful, excited youngsters waited patiently for hours as local business men operated their motor boats filled with, youthful riders. This was perhaps one. of the most popular events of the entire celebration. A seaplane from Minneapolis and several . commercial planes also took passengers up all day long.The seaplane landed and took off from Kearny state park on the lake..The VFW presented their guard of honor, a flag drill. was held and a band concert g.yen as added . features of the nigh* program.A spectacular display of pre-war firt-yis., ov£r as -lake and a 1 picturesque^ parade of boats, adorn- * ed with brightly colored lights. formed a beautiful climax to the day’* ‘free entertainment.
