New store going np in MonessenMonessen is losing one clothing store for ladies and children, but it’s being replaced by another store owned by the same company.Phillip Wise, chairman of Volume Merchandising, Inc , New York City, said his com-Panv pans to open Wise’s asnions in August.Groundbreaking for the new store at Sixth St. and Donner Ave, took place recently and construction of the building is now in progress.The new store wilt replace the Jenny Shop, Volume Merchandising’s current facility in Monessen.The new store will be located on a lot owned by George Stratigos, a long-time Monessen businessman.Volume Merchandising found it necessary to seek a new location because First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Monessen purchased the Jenny Shop’s budding to expand its offices. First Federal, Wise said, “has cooperated by extending the lease of the current store while our new home is under construction.’'Six persons will be employed at the new store and Wise said he expects thatsome of the Jenny Shop employees will work there.The one-story building is being constructed By a McKeesport contractor. The 4,000-square-feel structure will have a glass and steel exterior. The steel was purchased from WheeUng-Pittsburgh Steel Coporation’s plant m Monessen, according to the Monessen Chamber of Commerce.The lot on which the new store is being built formerly was the site of Rosensen’s Furniture and Forlini's Hotel. Monessen Redevelopment Authority bought the lot withfederal funds, and Stratigos bought it from the Redevelopment Authority.
