Favored with good weather, tht faithful turned out in great numbers and more than a score of priests of the j archdiocese assisted at the solemn ser-\ U CS.. • ■,Shortly before 10:00 o’clock, a great procession moved from the parish hall, headed by the uniformed Knights of lt;ji. John, and passed the rectory, where the archbishop and assisting clergy jbiueti the moving throng. The knights then formed a guard of honor about the church while the exterior walls were blessed by his Grace. Following this ceremony was the blessing of the interior walls, during which only the ofikiating clergy were permitted within* Then the doors were thrown open for the pontifical high Mass, celebrated by His Grace, assisted by Revs. J. Henry Sehengber, as assistant priest; George X. Schmidt and Henry J. Schuer as deacons of honor; Henry J. Lehman, deacon; Louis Abt, subdeacon; Joseph H. Albers and William J. Spickermann, masters of ceremonies; and John G. Stein, chanter. The sermon was delivered by Rev. F. Henry Bene.In the evening, the great beauty of the rtiurch interior was demonstrated when, during solemn vespers and benediction, all the electric lights were used and illuminated every inch of the high vaulted ceiling, the niches, statuary and altars.On Monday, Father Tieken offered up his first Mass in the new church for the living and dead of the congregation who contributed to the church fund. The Fourth of July Mass was one of special Thanksgiving for the blessings that have been showered on the parish, and next Sunday will be general Communion day for the congregation.This will complete the ceremonies which gives to the archdiocese one of its largest and most beautiful churches. It is 148 by 88 feet, cruciform in shape and of brick and Bedford stone.
