Social News» tObserve Golden Anniversary* * *BY ALICE HIGINBOTHAtt ..Mr. and Mrs, Oscar Fagre observed their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, June 30 with an open house at Trinity Lutheran Church. Preceding the open house was an anniversary dinner served Saturday night at the Gard* ston Shore Room and on Sunday evening a G o'clock smorgasbord was served at the Fagre cottage on Spirit Lake.Mr. and Mrs. Fagre were married June 28, 1913 in Chicago, 111., at the St. Timothy Lutheran Church. Attendants at the 50-year-ago wedding were the late Mr. and Mrs. Lief Lief sen.Mr. Fagre was born at Ilone-foss, Norway and came to the United States in 1909. He went to Canada and worked there on a railroad and later relumed to the United States and learned the bricklaying trade in Chicago and Minneapolis.★It was in Chicago that he met and married the former Anna Bjorvik, From Chicago the Fagres moved to Minneapolis. In 1917 Mr. Fagre came to Estherville from Minneapolis to work and two years later, in 1919, was joined here by his family. Since that time Mr. Fagre has been a contractor in this area and he and their three sons, Stanley, Roland and Kenneth, now form the Fagre Construction Co. Mr. and Mrs. Fagre have one daughter, Mrs. Edwin (Marion) Dole of Sacramento, Calif. They also have 13 grandchildren.For the 7 o’clock anniversary dinner Saturday evening, the Rev. David Samuelson of Trinity Lutheran Church gavs the table Grace and Stanley Fagre was master of ceremonies.Main table for the dinner was centered by a “Kranse kage” traditional Scandinavian wedding cake and adjoining tables were decorated with flowers and candles.★Program for the evening consisted of piano selections played by the grandchildren, a welcome by Stanley Fagre; a son, “Her kommer vi jeres lille flokM written for the occasion by Mrs. William Nielsen, and sung by the grandchildren; history of Anna (Mrs. Fagre) by Mrs. Dole, daughter of the honored couple ; history of Oscar (Mr. Fagre) by his brother, Axel F. Fagre; group singing of another selection, “Guld-bryllupsdagen” (Golden Wedding Day), also written for the occasion by Mrs. Nielsen, longtime family friend.Program for the open house at Trinity Lutheran, presented at 4 p.m. Sunday, included a prelude of hymns, ’arranged and played by Mrs. Hoyt Luithly, “Beautiful Savior/’ “A'Mighty Fortress” and “Den Store Hvide Flok.”Roland Fagre, master of ceremonies. extended a welcome to all relatives arid friends and devotions were lead by Pastor David Samuelson. Grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Fagre sang “Children Of The Heavenly Father.” The Rev. Lawrence A. Mattire gave a talk and the program concluded with a solo “Jeg Elsker Dig” by Mrs. Myron Lund.Refreshments were served at the open house from a table covered by a gold satin cloth covered with gold net and centered by a three-tiered wedding cake, iced in white, decorated in white and gold and topped with an ornamental numeral “50.” A bouquet of 50 yellow roses, gift of Mr. Fagre to his wife, was used at both the dinner and the open house.Mrs. Fagre’s church group, Mrs. Robert Stall, leader, had charge of serving the refreshments. Dorothy Rogers served punch and assisting hostesses all were relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Fagre Out-of-town guests here for the occasion included Mr. and Mrs. Edwin K. Dole, Randall and Maryly, Sacramento, Calif.; Axel F. Fagre, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Deason, Miss Marlis Fagre, all of Saskatchewan, Can.; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Haug, all of Seattle, Wash Miss Alice Rigney, Utica, N.Y.; Mrs. Margaret Alien and Bruce, Wilmington, Del.; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Felio and Arthur, South Orange, N.J.; Mr. and Mrs. 0. B. Stavoe, Grosse Point, Mich.; Dr.Arthur Stavoe, Mr. and Mrs. John Bjorvik, Bobby, David and Ann Lise, all of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Bjarne Hegland, Knut and Paul Sault Ste. L. Johnson, Mrs. Vance Crim, Mrs. William Howard and Rodney Tredway, are hopeful that reservations will be made, especially by class members living in this area, as soon as possible.Honor Loyd Handelands On 25th AnniversaryMr. and Mrs. Loyd Hantieland were honored Sunday, June 23 at an open house held at the home of Mrs. Handeland’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. R.
