Jure 29.It seemed only fitting that the reunion be held at this particular place in view of the fact Lhai both sets of grandparents or (he Ellisfamily migrated, as pioneer sel-llers, to the pinev woods section of East Texas several years before Ihe Chil War. John Wesley Ellis, with his wife Catherine, came from the stale of Alabama as a Methodist missionary preacher to • administer to Ihe spiritual needs or the early settlers and, also, lo the ■ tribes of savage Indians that still inhabited this part of the state.Grandfather- Josiah Dotson, on Lhc maternal side, came from Tennessee with his wife Amanda, to settle land as a farmer. He served 'as a soldier in the Southern army all four years of the Civil War.These two families’came lo East Texas and settled in Cherokee County near the. present town of New Summcrfield. Each family had-large families of children all of whom were born and reared in these East Texas environs.-John Garrison Ellis, son of John Wesley, and in .whose mommy the Ellis Family, Reunion was established, reared eight children, seven of whom still survive, and were present at the reunion Sunday.They are, in order: of age from oldest down:. Of in'. K. Ellis, New Summerfield, Mrs. Jessie Shaw, Ty---ler,;John T.’Ellis, Oklahoma City,Carl G. Ellis, Pittsburg, Herbert C. Ellis, Carthage, Mrs. f^eslie Jones .Houston, Mrs. Kate Acker, Dallas. The youngest of the family, Barney II. Eilis, died in Longview, in 1953, and was represented at the reunion Sunday by his wife, Gertrude and two daughters.-.Linda and Joy of Longview. :One ot the very interesting (hings about the reunion Sunday was Urn fact that- Ihnrc were fisre -generations represented, ranging ' in age from five months to eighty- . four years. The baby is Ihe great-' . grandson or Jessie, living in Tyler. The oldest person is Uncle LuLhcr Dotson; who only recently passed his 84lh birthday, now Irving in Gallalin.Relatives coming from out of the state included: John T. Ellis and family from Oklahoma City, Quin-da Ellis and family from St. Louis, '■ Alo.r and Orel Ellis (Mrs. Bud. El- -der) and family from Campbells-..' vilie.
