Melville, president, for The Sandusky Islands Steamboat Co., owning and operating* the steamer Chippewa dn the Sandusky and Lake JBrle islands - * \ * * •run, and becomes the steampr’s permanent home.Details of the deal have not as yetbeen formally announced and the purchase price has not been disclosed. -It is known, however, that the company has wanted the dock for many years and that negotiations just concluded, have been runningover a period of ■ from ten to fifteen yfears.The dock was established in 1856 by a pioneer citizen from whom it received the name it carries at the present time, and for many .yeat thereafter was the scene of commercial fishing activity that went far to give Sandusky her reputation as one of the greatest if not the greatest fresh water fish ports in tjjfl world;.A warehouse was built on the dock which long was occupied by Gallagher Bros., flour and feed producers and dealers, still in business on Water-st.
