Tower, R-Tex„ was thanked liei'e Wednesday by lm officials of Laredo for Ids eflqris to prevent cuts in the amount of duty-free goods that United States travelers can bring back from Mexico and other countries.Tower happened to run into J, C. Martin Jr., mayor of Laredo, and City Attorney Frank Y. Hill at the Capitol. They expressed appreciation for his speech amendments and work: on the Senate floor on this bill, on behalf of border merchants..Rep. Klka do La Garza of Mission had already thanked Tower for his support,Rep, Richard White El Paso, did not go over to Tower’s desk during debate on this bill although he was on the Senate floor.Sen. Yarborough, D-Tex:, wanted to support the Jafmso.i administration which advocated cutting the present sum of $100 wholesale to $50 retail but finally voted to keep the intake total at $100 retail.
