His body was recovered shortly after the crash which occurred while the plane was making an instrument approach to the Fairhope airport.The Fairhope Police Department, the Alabama Marine Police, Navy divers and volunteers conducted an intensive search for eleven days before finding Aycock’s body.Bad weather hampered the search almost continuously with wind, rain and fog preventing constant searching of the area. Visibility underwater at the site of the wreckage was limited to three inches and the plane was broken into numerous pieces.Salvage operations took several days due to both the weather conditions and the condition of the plane wreckage. Both bodies were found still strapped to their seats, although Aycock’s body had floated away from the rest of the wreckage.
