sTuesday, Jan. 29, 1907, being the fiftieth birthday anniversary of Noah V. Sears, quite a number of his many friends gathered at his little home, in the extreme north east part of North East to remind him of the occasion. At about the usual hour the neigh-* bors began to arrive with well filled baskets, and to say we had a good dinner would be putting it mildly, for the very table groaned under the weight of the viands our neighbor women know so well how to prepare. Mr. Sears was the recipient of many presents. A nice rocking chair was presented by his family, and there were shoes, shirts, suspenders, handkerchiefs and gloves by his friends. It is often said, “older than good,” but we can hardly say this of Uucle Noah, for we haven’t many men in our community that are better than he. He is always pleasant, and of a generous disposition, trying always to help a friend in need. The evening was pleasantly spent in social chat, and music was furnished by the.phono graph. All went away wishing Mr. Sears many more years to spend at such occasions, and feeling they were bettered by being there. A Friend0l-fThe handsome home of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Claxton, of French Lick, was all but destroyed by fire at ah early hour Monday morning. The fire is sup posed to have originated from a defective flue and was well under way when discovered. The fire company responded to the alarm and saved the building from burning to the ground, but, from fire and water, the part remaining is considered almost worthless. The same may be said of the household goods and furniture. We have heard no estimate of the loss, but understand it is covered by insurance. —Paoli Republican. The Revival at the Christian Church that is being conducted by Eldi John W.
