At the age of 24, she married JohnV •Wood and with her husband came west to Iowa to take up a claim. She has lived 77 years on the same farm and 76 years in the same house.Pomeroy then was the railway terminal so George met them with an ox cart. The next summer Mr.aWood built the sod house, in which his wife still lives. It has been rebuilt with stone and protected on one side by a pile of rock that reaches almost to the eaves, andthas withstood the storms for more than a half century.Mrs. Wood remembers the Pom-e/oy cyclone of July 1894, for her little home withstood the storm, and was one of the few houses In that vicinity to remain standing.The woman lives alone, her pet dog her only companion; her husband died 30 years a go, leaving the widow and 11 children.On the same farm on which her home stands, a son, one of her eight surviving children, lives. Though blind and foroed to walk with a cane, Mrs. Wood refuses to leave her home in which she has lived for more than three score years.Mrs. Wood has eight children, 29 grand children and 42 great grandchildren and several grdat great grandchildren. ... h84Bft2jddhc
