Hugh Marshall, has called for the widening of the the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to in-elude Central American statesMarshall made the suggestion In light of the European Economic Community’s (EEC) plans for a single market in 1992‘Our future will have to be one . that brings Central America closer to the Caribbean Community We cannot simply seek to keep the club membership of CARICOM to 13,' he said \/He added, “We will have to come to grips with the reality of the situation the same way Europe, Canada and America have to come to recognise that while small isibeautiful it Is not necessarily plentiful**The Antiguan Minister told businessmen here Central America offers a cheap source of raw materials which will make CARICOM goods more competitive on the world market If they are available“To extend the rigors of world competition in the production of goods requires the resourcing of cheaper raw materials and high production with reasonable labour cost, Marshall remarked“Central America present for us some challenges in this direction We can either pick them on our team to play with us or face the possibitty that they might be picked by the EEC countries one by oneThen they will not Ipe working with us but working against us Our survival then wilt be a difficult one to maintain, he argued
