Strobel. The event is in conjunction with the opening of the exhibit, From Sugar to Ruins: A Lake Jackson Plantation History.The exhibit will focus on the history of the Lake Jackson Plantation. It will showcase items uncovered from the site during a 1994 archaeological dig, as well as items on loan from the public. Nineteenth-century items typically used during the plantation period also will be on display, including a woman's bodice and aConfederate rifle.A coffee and sweets reception will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 6 at the Lake Jackson Historical Museum, with the program to follow at 10:30 a.m. The artists who will be honored are Lillie Alcala, Reba Bonorden, Julia Crainer, Benita Heard, Betty Klasel, Adalia Maudlin, Betty Miller, Mike Parrinello, Robert Ruhmann, Dot Salisbury, Harry Sargent, Susan Tasset and Karin Veazey.While dressed in period clothes,H.N. Bitter, Tissie Schwebel, Harry Sargent and Lisa Baker will present readings from I he Plantations and Their Owners. Bitter is known for the characters he portrays for local plays and musicals. Schwebel is a member Brazoria Heritage Foundation. Sargent is the treasurer and plantation site chairman for the Lake Jackson Historical Museum and has portrayed Abner Jackson at several museum functions. Baker is active with the Stephen F. Austin statue and park.In addition to the readings, Gwendolyn Wright and Elton Davis will sing at Bobbie Greer's request. Before each song, the pair will relate the history and meaning behind the early spiritual hymns. Wright and Davis have lived in the area for many years and are active in the musicministry of Life Foursquare Church in Angleton.The reception and program are free thanks to the sponsorship of A.G.
