Hie Lenox Glass Company is as yet young, but they claim to manufacture as good plate glass as there is in the world. Their expenses are hr no means small, their pay-roll being $10,000 per month and their coal bill reaching a high figure, as they use 14,000 tons a year, AU their lt;m\ j is brought from Pennsylvania, their sand and lime is obtained near the fkctory, and tbeir sulphate of soda is brought from abroad. Their coal is manufactured into gas and all their fhrnaces are heated by this means# This method 1s believed to jbe a matter of economy, and the gas, though similar {to our common illuminating gas, is of an inferior {quality. The Company have in contemplation the »tuilding of a new storehouse for the increasing needs ,of their business, and will soon proceed to erect it. jThe manufacture of plate glass is one which will grow {with time. The Company intend to spare i\o expense (to complete their whole establishment; and it is not jonly a credit to them that they have thus fkr done so ,well, have made a step forward in the progress of ,manufactures, hut t j the btate of Massachusetts it is also a matter of congratulation that she is loading the van in this new and important enterprise.
