AN OCTOGENARIAN SURPRISEDRelatives of Mrs. Caroline Pile CelebrateHer 84th Birth jay Anniversary.Mrs. Caroline Pile, one of the oldest residents of Somerset boroueh, was pleasantly reminded of her eighty, fonrth birthday anniversary last Saturday by a number of her relatives. That event, which is always pleasant in one's life, had almost passed her notice, un-til she was surrounded by her children.Five of Grandmother Pile’s eight children, together with the members of their families, thirty some in all, met at the home of John C. Pile, and marched in a body to the home of Clarence E. Pile, a grandson, with whom Mrs. Pyle lives. She was seated in a comfortable rocking chair by the family fireside reading the daily newspaper when the surprisers entered, carrying packages of provisions for a supper that was to follow. To her question, “What is the meaning of all this?’’ one of the children replied with another interrogatory: “Mother, how old areyou?” It took her some time to overcome her surprise, but when she did she entered into the spirit of the occasion as heartily as any of them. For one of her age Mrs. Pyle is remarkably active and keeps in close touch with public affairs. She reads several daily and weekly newspapers regularly, and uses glasses only in reading.Besides Mrs. Pile there are only two members of her immediate family living. They are Miss Annie Bair I and Mrs. Christina Bertram of Somerset borough.I
