Ervin township, is in a state of turmoil, the outgrowth of a joke on the minister. Rev. Rritton Bassett. At the Christmas entertainment at the church the head of a goose was hung on the tree for the minister and a muskrat and a peck of wild parsnips were left at his door in Ueu of the regulation ■possum and sweet potatoes. Rev. Bassett, who is respected and popular, resented theInsult. As a result of an inquiry by theofficial board William Ellis, tin- leader of the faction opposing the pastor, and alsosuspected of knowing something of theChristmas-tree outrage, has been expelled. Rev. Bassett was expelled himself a fewmonths ago. hut put up a fight that compelled his successor to resign, and he got his old placo again.
