Mr. and Mrs. Burkeen were mar* ried at Brushy Bottom community, near Marquez In Leon County. ''Wo telephoned the {ustice of the peace in Marquez and told him to meet us for a wedding in Brushy Bottom/^ Mrs. Burkecn recalled. ''It got so wet around Brushy Bottom that our buggy just wouldn't make it to Marquez. We were married near a bridge/ she said. A daughter, Mrs. Ozell HosI, of Waco, was unable to attend the surprise dinner held for Mr. and Mrs. Burkeen in observance of their golden wedding anniversary. Their other children and tamihes were present, including Lee Burkeen of Mexia; Mrs. L. C. Brem of Crane; Henry Burkeen of Culver City, Calif; Boyd Bur-Qf Houston; and Loyd Burkeen of Farrar.
