Thomasville Landmarks Inc.To Present1nnual▲wardsSome 32 individuals, clubs and other organizations will receive awards during TTiomasville Landmarks Inc. annual meeting at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Garden Center.The awards program in-eludes Awards of Merit and Certificates of Commendation. The program was established by the board of directors to recognize Thomas Countians’ contributions to the county’s historical heritage preservation, said Landmarks executive director Norman Larson.Awards of Merit are given for outstanding achievement in the historical preservation field and the second is for significant contributions to the county’s continued historic and aesthetic character.Those selected to receive Awards of Merit are Coolidge Big Creek Baptist Church — for interior renovations and preservation ; BostonPresbyterian Church — interior renovations and preservation; Miss Mildred Clark — renovation of the Hansell-Merrill House; and First United Methodist Church— interior renovations and preservation.Joseph Jerger Jewelers Inc.— interior preservation; Dr. and Mrs. Fred E. Murphy Jr.— preservation of the Dr. Coyle House; Mr. and Mrs. P.R. Rieber — preservation of the Augustin Hansell House; State of Georgia, Dept, of Natural Resources — restoration of the Lapham-Patterson House.Also, Thomasville City Commission — preservation and maintenance of the Big Oak Park, Thomasville Garden Clubs — preservation and maintenance of the Big Oak Park; and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin C. Wight Jr. — preservation and renovation of the Dr. Eaton House.Certificates of Commendation will be presented toAlexander, Vann Lilly — forpreservation of the Harley House and fine example of adaptive useBenjamin D. Corbett — preservation of the Corbett House, 523 Stevens St.; W'aymon Dekle — daily contributions to the maintenance of Thomasville’s beauty.Dr. Ben Grace — many general preservation efforts in 'niomasville and for being a pioneer for adaptive use for older buildings; Sam Greene —outstanding care and attention to the grounds of the Big Oak Park and Thomasville Library; Mrs. Mary C. Grubbs— preservation of the Avera House and grounds.k Also, Henry Herbener — preservation and aesthetic contributions of the Stephens-Butler House and grounds beautification; Charles Johnson — preservation of the Catholic Church; Mrs. Charlotte Kanning — preservation of the Fudge House; Massey Drug of Thomasville — research and renovation of an historic building.Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Ragan— preservation of the old Hargrave House; Rambler Rose Garden Club — maintenance of the Old CemeteryGrounds; Marvin Rivers — preservation of the Rivers' House in Pavo; Mrs. HullSearcy and Mrs. Anita Hitchcock - aesthetic contribution through renovation of a non-con forming structure.Also, Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Sullivan — preservation of the Balfour House on Hansell St.;Thomas County Commission — for preservation of the Thomas County Courthouse;Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce — foraddition of oak trees on BroadStreet.Mrs. W.A. Watt Sr. - her interest, work and devotion in the Historical Society; Mrs. T.L. Williams Jr. — her many preservation contributions, especially her influence and work to have the Lapham -Patterson House designated asa State Historic SiteAlso, Mrs. Parker B. Poe -her many preservation efforts; and Mrs. Jean II. Gallien —her interest in and support ofhistoric preservations inThomas County Awards committee chair* man Mrs. James A. Anderson Jr. and members Mrs. Bolling Jones, Mrs. Allan Crawford. John Baxter, Mrs. Anita Hitchcock, John L. Turner III and Frank V. Eideviezed preliminary nominations and then submitted nominees to theboard of directors.Also during the meeting, 1975 directors will be elected for three-year terms. Those nominated are Mrs. Jones Elliott, Mrs. James D.F. Evans II, Mrs. Jean H. Gallien.Dr. Ben Grace, Dr. W.W. Gravely, Mrs. Bolling Jones III, John Baxter and Alvin C.Wight Jr.Ralph Faulk has been named to fill the unexpired term of Mrs. Michael Herndon.Board members whose terms expire this year include Mrs. T.M. Hines, Mrs. James A. Anderson Jr., Mrs. Brigham Britton, Mrs. Martin Cooper, Mrs. L.D. Ferguson, Terrell Singletary and Mrs. C. MartinWood III.Officers nominees are Mrs. T.L. Williams Jr., president; Mrs. Eugene Driver, vice president-membership; Mrs.Bolling Jones III, vice president-programs; Mrs. James D.F. Evans II.corresponding secretary; and Joe Beverly, treasurer.
