On Thursday eveuing of last week, Jan. 10th. 1884, during the absence of Mrs. «Johu Griffith, her home on South Third street was broken into by about twenty*five couple of her numerous friends and relatives. On her return home she was greatly surprised, when approaching the house to see it so brilliantly illuminated. Upon entering the house she was met at the doorby the cheering voices of her friends and relatives, who welcomed her home again, and who congratulated her ou the 38th anniversary of her birth. Although greatly surprised Mrs. Griffith was equal tr» the occasion, and entertained her guests in royal style. She was the recipient of a large number of elegant present?. The even ing’s enjoyments consisted of a selection of plays and music, both vocal and instrumental. An elegant supper was served at the hour of twelve, which was pa.iaken of with zest by all presentOne of the most enjoyable features of the occasion was the duet by Mr. John Griffith and Miss Annie Kipp.Among the gue-st present were: Mr. Samuel Kipp and wife, of Denison ; Wm. Kipp and family, of Sew Oomerfttown; John Kipp and brother, of Frateysborg; Martin Tvrer and wife; Marshal Hendershot and wife; Fred. Lisey and wife; Geo. W. Year-ley and wife; Geo. Lcaff and wife; Mr. Harry Bussell and sisters and many others.Great credit is due Mrs. Mary Anderson, sister of Mr. John Griffith, for the gelling up of the happy affair, and for the delightful manner in which she entertained her guests. A most delightfnl evening was spent, and no! until the wee sma’ hours jogged the minds of those present, did the merry gathering break up, the friends ad-jonming to tbeir various home* well ealisfied, and hoping that Mrs. G. may live to enjoy many more such anniversaries.
