g Is Problem In Reclaimed Building At ParkerNew Valley School Bids To Be CalledBy BEN VANCEPARKER —• Since it was built 27 years ago, the Valley School has I passed briefly to the public school system, back to the Bureau of (Indian Affairs, abandoned last year but re-opened last fall to an overflow it caused at Parker’s Elementary School.The Valley Indian School was built in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps from cementblock they made themselves. The building is still in fair shape, But due to the proximity of the schoo seven miles south of Parker and other factors, the BIA in following a general trend throughout the agency, has been trying to close the school.When the BIA closed the school last year the 125 Indian students | were to be entered into the Yuma County Elementary School District.F. E. Total enrollment at Parker’s Elementary Is 475. The school owns a city block West of the main buildings where the new construction is planned.The district gets money from the government for each Indian pupil and non-Indian families who are eligible through a government lease or job. About one-third of the total school population is Indian, mostly Mojaves.Blake said. Eventually we are going to have to ask for a bond election to take care of the school’s growth.
