Augustana Librarian Pilott*8*%mBroken Bow f/P) — The search pattern widened slightly Monday afternoon as Civil Air Patrol rescue pilots learnedmore about a private plane carrying six persons has been missing since Saturday evening.The red and white PA 36whichhad left Colorado Springs Saturday bound for Sioux Falls, S.D., with a debate party returning hometo Augustana College.It was last heard from atNorth Platte.Lt. Mike McCurdy, Civil Air Patrol public information spokesman, said searcherssubsequently learned that thepilot, operating under visual flight rules, lost daylight about 6:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Anselmo, Neb. At that time he was flying at about 7,500 feet altitude with broken clouds below at 2,500 feetaltitude.This broken cloud cover and a 30 knot wind raise the possibility that the aircrafthad veered east of its intended course and as a result the CAP laid out a new search area of about 2,300 square miles about 30 miles to theeast of the area searched Sunday.Delayed until noon becauseof poor visibility the nine aircraft involved in theNebraska portion of the search were airborne at noon,flying on a search pattern between Anselmo and O’Neill, which was on the pilot’s flightplan.Adjutant Gen.
