i ORDINANCE NO. 84!.Accepting the Gift of $;)O,GC0 from Andrew Carnegie, Esq., for a Free Library, and Pledging the Council and its Successors to Comply with theConditions and Stipulations of SaidGift.Whereas, Andrew Carnegie. Esq., has no:ifl«d the Connell of the City of Steubenville Olilo, of his Intention Jo donate to said city the sum of fifty thousand dollars for the purpose of holiding, erecting and establish irjjt a free library in taid city, provided the Council of eald city shall make such provision.that the sum of four thousand dollars annually snail be raised and applied to the maintenance and support of such library;Therefore, be it ordained by the Council of the City of Steubenville, Ohio, at follows:Section l.—-Thattbe said gift b* and the same is hereby accepted for the n*e* and nurposes hereinbefore expre'eed. and subject forever to the terms, conditions and stipulations ejrpre««ed in said gift; and the said Council, on behalf of itself and its successors. hereby stipulates and agrees wit a tho said And rev,' Carneaie that it. and its successes shall levy in each and every year hrreafter upon all the taxable pronerty within said city such rate upon every dollar thereof ns shall produce annually the sum of four thousand dollar* after deducting the costs of collecting the same, and that the sum of four thousand dollars shall ib paid annually t« ths Board of Directors of such library for the mamtHDnco and support of the same.section 2—Tills ordinance .shall take effect and he in force from and after its passage and legal publication.Passed in Council this 9th daycf Januaiy A, D, M).
